The 2026 Volkswagen Tiguan is equipped with a 2.0-liter TSI® 16-valve DOHC turbo 4-cylinder engine, which is matched with a 8-speed automatic transmission. The engine delivers 201 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque with front-wheel drive and 201 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque with all-wheel drive.

That’s plenty of power for everyday driving, but if you want more power, there’s another engine option for you. The top trim level offers a zippy 2.0-liter TSI® EA888 EVO5 16-valve DOHC turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that boasts 268 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.

The 2026 Honda CR-V lineup offers both gas-powered and hybrid models, and AWD is an available option. The turbocharged 1.5-liter engine for gas-powered models delivers 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque, while the two-motor hybrid powertrain with the 2.0-liter, direct-injection Atkinson-cycle engine delivers 204 total system horsepower and 247 pound-feet of torque.

The Tiguan VW SUV offers the most maximum horsepower between the two models, but which one pulls ahead in the towing category?

Both models can tow light loads, when properly equipped. For all-wheel drive VW Tiguan

models, the maximum towing capacity is 1,800 pounds (braked) and 1,650 pounds (unbraked). For Honda CR-V models, the maximum towing capacity is 1,500 pounds for non-hybrid models and 1,000 pounds for hybrid models.

Once again, the Tiguan comes out on top.

Comfort, Cabin Space, and Features Compared

Moving on to the cabins, you can expect to find comfort in both SUVs, with a range of amenities to enjoy. When it comes to space, the Volkswagen Tiguan interior offers 40.2 inches of legroom in both the first and second rows. The Honda CR-V offers slightly more: 41.3 inches of legroom in the front and 41 inches in the rear.

For cargo space, you’ll get up to 69.8 cubic feet in the Tiguan with the rear seats down and 76.5 cubic feet in the CR-V with the rear seats down.

The CR-V offers leather-trimmed seats in select trim levels.

Ambient lighting is available in both SUVs, but where the CR-V offers either white or amber ambient lighting, the Tiguan offers adjustable ambient lighting in either 10 or 30 color choices, depending on the trim level.

If you want maximum space in a compact SUV, the 2026 Honda CR-V delivers, but if you want a more luxurious driving experience, the Volkswagen Tiguan shines.
