2027 Volkswagen Lineup: What’s New?

Volkswagen is making some notable moves for the 2027 model year, and there’s plenty to look forward to. The new Volkswagen model updates include a fully redesigned Atlas, the return of the ID. Buzz after a one-year absence, updated technology and safety features across several models, and new EV options. We expect the first arrivals in August 2026, with additional models launching through early 2027.

Here’s a breakdown of the biggest updates to the VW lineup.

What’s New Across the 2027 Volkswagen Lineup?

The 2027 model year isn’t just about individual model updates. Volkswagen is rolling out a wave of new Volkswagen technology and convenience improvements for several vehicles across the lineup.

One of the bigger additions is the new In-Vehicle Premium subscription, which bundles connected services into a single package. Depending on the model, this can include navigation with real-time traffic, AI-powered voice assistance with ChatGPT, premium radio, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, myQ Connected Garage, AirConsole® gaming, and What3Words® navigation. It’s a big step forward in terms of the latest Volkswagen features available to everyday drivers.

When it comes to safety, Volkswagen has updated Travel Assist and Emergency Assist on select models. Travel Assist has improved lane centering and now supports assisted lane changes and predictive cruise control. Emergency Assist adds emergency stopping support, a feature designed to bring the vehicle to a controlled stop if you become unresponsive behind the wheel.

Altogether, these updates reflect Volkswagen’s mission to bring more connectivity and driver-assistance capabilities to more of its lineup, not just top trims.

2027 Volkswagen Atlas & Atlas Cross Sport Updates

The biggest redesign in the 2027 Volkswagen SUV lineup is the all-new Atlas. After years as one of Volkswagen’s best-selling three-row SUVs, the 2027 model gets a ground-up refresh, including updated exterior styling, new lighting, and a more premium cabin.

On the practical side, Volkswagen has added several standard features that your family will actually use. These include a power liftgate, rear sunshades, and Park Distance Control. Safety gets an upgrade, too, with the addition of a new front center airbag.

Under the hood, the 2027 Atlas is powered by an updated turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that produces 282 horsepower, the most ever available in an Atlas. Volkswagen expects fuel economy to improve over the outgoing model as well. You can choose between front-wheel drive or 4Motion® all-wheel drive depending on your needs.

As for the Atlas Cross Sport, VW has confirmed it’s coming but will arrive later in the year. It’s expected to follow the same design and feature direction as the redesigned Atlas.

ID. Buzz Returns for 2027

After a break for the 2026 model year, the ID. Buzz is back for 2027 with more options than before. The updated trim structure includes the Pro S RWD, Pro S 4Motion, Pro S Plus 4Motion, and the all-new Tourer 4Motion.

The Tourer is the standout addition. This camping-focused model comes equipped with everything you need to make a night in the van actually comfortable:

• Fold-out mattress with platform
• Window blinds and front window ventilation panels
• Exterior table and chairs
• Overnight Mode software that adapts interior and exterior functions for overnight use
• Captain’s Chairs, retractable tow hitch, and an electrochromic smart roof

All 2027 ID. Buzz trims also include technology updates, like:

• ID.S 6 software with a refreshed navigation screen and improved vehicle settings
• In-vehicle App Store with access to YouTube® and Spotify®
• NACS charging adapter for broader charging network compatibility
• One-pedal driving

On the outside, updated two-tone paint options include the new Candy White over Cherry Red combination, which pays homage to classic Microbus.

Smaller Updates Across the Volkswagen Lineup

The Atlas and ID. Buzz may be getting the most attention this year, but Volkswagen is also making updates to the rest of the lineup. Here’s a quick look at what’s new for the cars and smaller SUVs.

• Golf GTI & Golf R – The GTI will continue to be offered across its standard trim levels, with added standard features on lower trims making it a stronger value. The Black Edition Golf R and Euro Style Package will both make a comeback.
• Jetta & Jetta GLI – Tech upgrades are the name of the game for the new Jetta. The S and Sport trims now include the Composition Media infotainment system, adding satellite radio, voice control, and two additional speakers. Keyless access and push-button start have also been added to those trims. All Jetta models will get an enhanced rear seatbelt reminder, and the GLI will still be available in a fully loaded Autobahn trim.
• Taos – The Taos adds a new Sport trim for 2027, which goes just above the entry-level S in the Volkswagen SUV lineup. It adds black and gunmetal exterior accents, black 18-inch wheels, and interior and infotainment upgrades that give the small SUV a sharper overall package.
• Tiguan – The Tiguan receives a handful of refinements this year. Expect improved camera quality, a heated steering wheel now standard on select trims, and Auto Hold added across all trim levels.

When Will 2027 Volkswagen Models Arrive?
